IAS students, alumni, teachers, and former teachers contributed a total of 1,157 community service hours to the people of Guatemala and Honduras during Summer 2011.

Below are the six projects they participated in:

  • La Esperanze de Jesus Home for Children (5 volunteers, 8 days):  A construction mission trip to El Venado, Honduras to help build a dining/multi-purpose facility for a children’s home. 
  • La  Asociacion de Las Mujeres de Los Altiplanos (4 volunteers, 2 days): Translated for a group of ten high school art students from Virginia, who were giving art classes to children from the indigenous community of Chuicavioc.
  • Episcopal Diocese of North Dakota Medical and Dental Team (14 Volunteers, 6 days):  Translated for a team of 26 health and dental care professionals from North Dakota and Canada in Quetzaltenango and Coatepeque, Guatemala.
  • La Iglesia Episcopal San Marcos Medical Team (2 volunteers, 4 days):  Two IAS teachers traveled to the Department of El Quiche, Guatemala providing basic medical care for impoverished people in an unstaffed clinic in a remote indigenous village.
  • La  Asociacion of Las Mujeres de Los Altiplanos (4 volunteers, 4 days):  Translated for a Methodist mission group of 6 volunteers from Virginia who constructed wood burning stoves in Chuicavioc, Guatemala.
  • Iglesias Agua Viva and Palabra en Accíon (1 volunteer, 8 days):  Translated for and assisted two mission teams from the United States.
